Icebreaker, Conference Team Building
The Boomwhacker is a hollow, plastic, musical tube that comes in five different colours, each with their own distinctive pitch, which produces a different sound when struck on the hand (or any other part of the body!)
Our Boomwhackers conference energiser can be adapted to suit many conference and team building formats. The activity can last from 15 minutes to 2 hours and can be as easy or difficult as you need.
Our Icebreaker Activities – Boomwhackers
At the start of our icebreaker activities, with guidance from our facilitator, each person will be given a different rhythm to play and within minutes the team will be creating a musical orchestra. This fast flowing session will lift the energy levels of the group leaving them feeling uplifted and with a great sense of achievement.
Boomwhackers are distributed quickly to guests and our team start with simple call and response activities. The We Will Rock You clap is done above the heads, which looks really visual, and the participants are effectively turned into a large united musical band.
Delegates are then used to re-create the theme tune from Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, which always sounds beautiful, and is great fun as it gets quicker and quicker emulating the famous communication scene at the end of the movie.
Boomwhacker Orchestra – each colour is given its own rhythm to play which creates a boomwhacker orchestra in which each note has a prominent part.
Japanese Kodo drumming is demonstrated. Guests have to follow rhythms with the boomwhackers, playing along to a kodo style beat played by the drummers that is both invigorating and fun, and speeds up to an energetic and exciting climax.
The following features are included on a standard boomwhackers event:
- All necessary equipment and boomwhackers
For longer sessions there are a number of Finale activities, including all delegates performing the New Zealand All Black Haka, or using African style body percussion to create an amazing sound. At some events 10 – 30 delegates join Mark Walker and his drum assistants on stage to play drums and are taught a simple rhythm. The remainder of the guests are taught some body percussion rhythms to accompany this, and can then be taught a tribal chant to sing over the rhythm, and taught some fun African style dances to accompany it. This makes for an energetic, exciting and highly uplifting end to the session.
