A Weekend At The Westbury
Dublin, a city steeped in history and culture, alive with tourism for attractions from the Guinness Storehouse to the Trinity College as well as huge international business with the likes of Facebook, Google and Accenture setting up shop in this glorious City should pique the interest of business travellers and sight-seers alike.
Smack bang in the middle of Dublin within a 10-minute walk of the iconic O’Connell Street and the picturesque Liffey River sits The Westbury. Tucked just off the boutique lined Grafton Street that runs through to St Stephen’s Green, you can spot the discreet luxury of this 5-star hotel and hiding within its walls, a modern take on the art deco dream.
The hotel is part of the Doyle Collection, a family run company with a hands-on approach in everything from the design to the service provided and is reflected in the beautiful setting, immaculate design of the space and the excellent service from the staff.
After proceeding up the steps from the main entrance you are greeted by the charming reception staff on one side and The Gallery on the other; a stunning lounge space which is the setting for breakfast in the morning, afternoon tea at midday and casual seating for evening drinks on the night. You can see exactly why this is the case; the finely crafted and comfortable settees, lavish carpets and views out onto the main street gives off that cosy, escape-in-the-city feeling.
The Sidecar, another key attraction of the hotel, is a world class cocktail bar just off The Gallery. Pulling in top mixologists from across the world, it’s no wonder that they paired up internationally with top New York mixologists of The Dead Rabbit – so you can guarantee you will be getting only the finest cocktails not just in Dublin, but possibly the world.
Balfes and WILDE, the two restaurants connecting to the hotel, each with their own personality and style, but with the same top-quality service you would expect the adjoining hotel of this calibre. Each provide outstanding dishes from breakfast in the WILDE with it’s relaxed, bright and floral setting to dinner in Balfes Parisian brasserie style setting and cuisine, you will be spoilt for choice!
Of course, saving the best for last; the rooms. In my ever-present quest to find the holy grail of comfy beds, I think we might have found a top contender. ‘Comfort from head to toe’ is the best way to describe the quality of the beds – with no exaggeration – and could have easily resulted in missing out on seeing Dublin in its entirety by losing hours in that glorious cocoon. The room reflected this level of comfort aptly and is the perfect retreat when your feet start to ache from a long day walking around such a lively city with an endless stream of sights to see.
A weekend at The Westbury is truly a superb way to experience Dublin with luxury, fine food and the perfect touch of glamour, making this hotel a gem in the crown of an exciting city that will having you waking up the next day with recharged and ready to take on a whole new adventure with the promise of a warm greeting from the staff and a brilliant night’s sleep.
